Mikuni has been my go-to sushi spot in the Sacramento area for years now, and honestly, it never disappoints. The quality has remained consistent over time -- a rare thing these days -- and that's exactly why I keep coming back. I frequently from time to time go to many of their location throughout the years. Each one offers a similar vibe with minor differences in ambiance, but all of them deliver on food, service, and cleanliness. Let's talk food. The menu is stacked -- from fresh sashimi and nigiri to fun and creative rolls. There's always something new to try, but a few favorites that I always come back to: * Pepper Fin - tangy, spicy, fresh... I order this every single time. * Benjamin Roll - a must-try for anyone who loves bold flavors. * Shrimp Hand Rolls - super fresh and simple. * Train Wreck Roll - loaded and delicious. * Tutoro (Toro) - melt-in-your-mouth good. * Zig Zag Hand Roll - perfect texture and flavor combo. * Freaky Edamame - perfect starter to share. Whether you're in the mood for a light snack and sake or want to go all out with a table full of rolls, Mikuni has you covered. I love getting a hot bottle of sake with an Asahi or cold Sapporo beer -- the pairing is perfect. Service is usually fast and friendly. There's always a large staff presence, and while some tend to hang around near the front, the servers assigned to your table are on it -- very attentive and efficient. I've asked for extra ginger, modifications to rolls, etc., and they always accommodate with no issues. Cleanliness? 10/10. The bathrooms are always spotless and actually smell good -- which honestly says a lot about how they manage the place overall. A few other notes: * Happy Hour is a great time to come -- good deals and solid portions. * It can get a little loud during peak hours, especially on weekends, but it's part of the lively vibe. * There's plenty of parking, though expect a wait during busy hours. If you prefer a more chill pace, come on a weekday. Hours: * Mon-Thurs: 11:30 AM - 9:00 PM * Fri & Sat: 11:30 AM - 10:00 PM * Sunday: 11:30 AM - 9:00 PM Whether it's date night, dinner with friends, or a big group celebration, Mikuni nails it every time. Great food, great drinks, great vibes. Highly recommend!

The service was amazing and food was the best I have had in a long time the server was very attentive and cheerful very considerate hang loose roll is always awesome and it has never disappointed me even though they were busy we got seated fast and the food took no time at all. all in all the food was amazing. I would rate this five stars. It is a must go. Ambience is amazing a very calm atmosphere also very good vibes

Although I tend to write some critical reviews, I also find it imperative to share some great spots. For people that have lived in the greater Sacramento area for decades, most people are aware of a very "solid" choice for sushi, at Mikunis. I have eaten at most locations but this pertains to the wonderful location in Elk Grove. There is ample parking outside and to the side of the restaurant and it is located just off Highway 99. As far as the food, it is all good. From sushi to kitchen plates all the food appears very fresh and it is great tasting. Portions are consistent with what you would expect as far as pricing. As far as price, it is not a "discount" sushi restaurant but you do get what you pay for and while some of the entrees are consistent with what you would expect a "fine dining" Asian restaurant, the prices are middle of the road. I would not let price deter you as you get value in terms of quality. In addition to great food it is always hard to find a combination of great food and service. However, Mikuni's has that balance and applause to all the hard working and dedicated servers. I hope Mikuni appropriately rewards and compensates it hard working employees. The bento is a great value and they also offer the lunch menu on weekends-thank you. (-: The downside of a great restaurant is that it can be very very busy. I highly recommend trying to go during an off night or off hours. One of my favorites is a weekend lunch. Overall, a great restaurant for either a date night or a family friendly environment. They do it right and I hope other restaurants rise to the challenge. I have no pecuniary or competing interest in this industry but just want to highlight this amazing place. I hope you go and treat the staff with Aloha! Enjoy. -Yelper

1st time here. Wait time was a bit long so plan to come early. Food was yummy. Ambiance is okay. The entrance seemed well decorated but the inside was a bit plain. Seemed like our server had the whole area to herself so service wasn't too great. Portions are huge so plan to share or take leftovers unless you have a big appetite. Platters are a bit pricey but the portions are quite large like I said. I would definitely recommend maybe on a less busier night.

Great spot for a date night or even a family outing splurge. It was quiet in the restaurant, so we were seated right away! We ordered gyoza and garlicky edamame to start. Both were delicious! For our entree, we got an incredible roll....oh my gosh! It was delicious. I added a bit more spicy mayo on the side and it was perfect. We added a chicken teriyaki plate (just in case the roll wasn't enough) but we were too full from the roll to even eat the chicken teriyaki.

My perfect date night spot that's always on repeat! You can never go wrong with this place , sushi is always fresh and delicious The first time I ever tried sushi in my whole life was here and I think it was the perfect place because that sushi was very fresh . Heads up that it's usually packed on the weekends , but you still get good service. I came here once for my birthday and they let me spin the wheel and I won a gift :)

I have been to Mikuni countless times, and the experience has been fairly consistent. This time, we were sat fairly quickly and our server came up to us after a couple of minutes. I usually get a Japanese fashioned because I like the brown sugar deviation from the usual. Our party of four decided to get the new ultimate platter since it had a great assortment of Mikuni's best roles. We also tried the Simba and Scallop Symphony. Simba was absolutely delicious. Salmon belly was nice and buttery with fresh avocado on top. Scallop symphony was a nice change from Special Scallops, since it comes with crispy garlic chips and lobster. The platter didn't disappoint. It was enough to feed the four of us a second time later that evening too. I will say that two of our rolls had their filling switched on accident, but wasn't enough to make us send it back. Maybe just keep an eye on that if you really like your rolls the way they are supposed to be. My main gripe, however, that my husband and I share, is the price. I've been to countless of other Japanese restaurants that provide fresh, if not fresher, ingredients for a fraction of the cost. They also usually have more variety with their rolls and don't drown them with sauce (but if sauce is your thing I understand the appeal). I will admit that the newest menu Mikuni released has put more flair on their traditional items, but given how long they have been a company I wish more innovation came sooner before their prices became what they are now. Additionally, the platter saves you about $13, so if there are any rolls on there you don't like it's automatically not worth IMO. I only come here once every couple of months now, and it looks like that's not going to change anytime soon. Definitely consistent with their flavors, and a comfortable choice if you don't want to give a smaller less-known place a chance, but there are just so many better places that aren't slowly pricing customers out that I recommend at least giving them a chance as well.
